.... and now it's broken anyway.

Some magnet's electronics melted on the LHC so it's now broken for "months" while they repair it.

:-(

In other news, the sun is shining, it's nice and warm, and I'm eating a mini dime bar, so it's not all bad.

3.. 2... 1.. nothing...

No black holes then.. but they did manage to fire a particle stream all the way around, in both directions.. so that's good.

Over the next few months, hopefully we'll see all kinds of new discoveries and theories confirmed or blown away.

Oh, and if someone can arrange for the rap to be released on iTunes - I'd like to see it get to #1 in the download charts ! :-)

Black holes and Revelations..

So, they've fired up the LHC at Cern.

I'm hoping for the following:

  • Discovery of something OTHER than the Higgs-Boson, something that isn't so limiting and allows for some kind of superluminal particle theory.
  • Something which opens the door to lots of extra-dimensional worm hole theories and t'ings.
  • Some kind of weird temporal displacement that lets me know next Saturday's lottery numbers.

I suspect either of the first two are more likely than the third.

Chrome. First thoughts.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of file-menu, which always bugs me because I'm an old-skool Windows user and obviously fear change.

Other than that, it's quick to render pages, I haven't managed to make it crash yet, and I like the splitting & recombining of tabs out and into individual windows.

The incognito mode (aka "Porn Mode" - thanks for that, Bog) seems to work in a blocking cookies kind of way, and has an amusing spy cartoon in the top left..

The history tab is quite clever with little thumbnails of previous pages, although it does give me the fear for some reason. I don't know why thumbnails of web pages always make me nervous.
The full history listing is fab, and the history search is inspired - I can NEVER re-find things I was looking at earlier.

So yeah. I thought I'd be disinterested and that it would just be "another browser", but it does actually seem to be a step forwards.

Just give me the top menu bar back :-)

Google Browser? Doogie Howser.

Resistance is futile. I have become blog.

Google Chrome.

There, I've said it. I'm now like every other drone in the bloggosphere.

My opinion? I don't have one yet - the beta is still to be released and you can't judge anything from screenshots and fuzzy flash-video splash screens.

When I've seen it, used it and caused it's first crash - then I'll have an opinion :-)

The wonders of blogging

So. This is a blog, eh?

It occurs to me that in this high-tech world of fast moving digitalness that I should have one, despite not really having the desire, nor requirement. Perhaps in years to come when I'm uber-rich or some kind of mad emperor of the world, we'll look back on this post with amazement and wonder.

It would be nice to think that I will post articles that will inspire and enrich people's lives.. But it'll probably just be stupid StarTrek quotes and links to funny pictures of blue-screen-of-deaths on cash machines.
